Who is marceline the vampire queen
Of course, as a vampire she has weaknesses including being sensitive to sunlight. And while she is a vampire, her appetite is not necessarily for blood but for things that are red.
While it seems like a lot has already been revealed about Marceline, there is still a lot of mystery behind her. Hopefully, some of these questions will be answered in the miniseries that premieres the first two episodes of the Marceline story tonight.
Until then, make sure to check out the exclusive clip from the first episode at the top. Twitter: tracycbrown. Tracy Brown is a digital editor and writer working in entertainment for the Los Angeles Times. She helps provide digital content for the Arts and Entertainment sections and has also written for the Travel, Books and Image sections.
Moody Blues drummer and co-founder Graeme Edge dies at Company Town. Film crew workers remain divided over new contract as voting begins. Princess Bubblegum would arrive on the scene to try and pacify her friend. Marceline swings by to catch up with Finn and Jake who are watching Blood Drive, a movie about race cars and vampires and vampire race cars. Marceline would apologize for being late, but then motivate the guys by challenging them asking if they are ready, referring to video games.
Jake and Finn would get excited, and BMO would get especially excited! The four would get ready to play video games, BMO explaining that he had a special treat for the trio, a game where a prince is kidnapped by ninjas and you play as a plumber who must rescue the prince, by fighting inside his guts. Finn would be amazed to realize he was about to play Super Guts Punch III, supposedly the hardest, most fun game of all time.
Jake and Finn would freeze with excitement to Marceline's curiosity. BMO would explain that they tended to do that and then tell Marceline to get ready, as he was about to teleport all of them to inside him and the game's virtual reality, reminding them to remember that if they die in the game, they die in real life and to have fun.
Marceline would have 4 extra lives because she is Marceline. Being shrunk down they would be launched down the digital prince's throat, the prince looking rather similar to a certain Prince Gumball. Finn and Jake would almost die by a fall into acid if not for Marcelines saving them and carrying them to safety. Marceline would find the first boss cute and hug it before Jake would attack it killing it.
The trio would go on a monster killing level scoring play-through of the first level. There would be an underground level, sea level, pyramid level, race-level among others before Marceline, Finn, and Jake would get to the final level. The game almost seemed to easier though, and Marceline would kill the boss with just one hit. By that point, she has also accumulated 99 extra lives.
The game would glitch and Marceline would see the coding spelling out the name Ewlbo, the Software Wizard. They would manifest into reality and ask BMO about the very strange experiences within the game. Then ask him who Ewlbo was? BMO would act very oddly though and dismiss their concerns. BMO would assert that computers were perfect and never bust-up. Then BMO would go on a bizarre tangent about how he was romancing the coffee machine.
They would then witness BMO both professing his love to the coffee machine, before insulting it, and then shaking the table that it was on. Marceline would be surprised they even had a coffee maker but reassert that BMO was acting really strange. Marceline would pause and reflect musing that she had seen something similar before. Marceline the Vampire Queen is over years old, and beyond that, she seems especially powerful, even by vampire standards, with supernatural levels of strength, speed, agility, durability, resilience, healing among powers such as shapeshifting, size-shifting, flight, telekinesis, levitation, pyrokinesis and invisibility.
Marceline can breathe fire. Her hair appears to be somewhat prehensile as well. She can also transform into an impressive array of monster forms, including those of a werewolf-like create, a small bat-like creature, a dragon, a giant bat-like creature, a giant, a reptilian creature, and an amorphous jet black like creature with tentacles.
Marceline does not need to feed on blood like most traditional vampires, instead, she is more open to choice as just anything a shade of red will revitalize her. This includes organic and inorganic objects, possibly even abstract objects. Marceline often appears to alter her form subconsciously when particularly emotional, growing, and taking more of a supernatural form. Considerably powerful in his own right, the Ice King was quite easily intimidated by Marceline when the two confronted him.
She is very skilled and adept with a battle-ax bass guitar and is a gifted singer. Marceline is ambidextrous. As with many of the other vampires in Adventure Time, Marceline is vulnerable to direct sunlight, but she usually circumvents this weakness by wearing large hats and otherwise covering up adequately. Marceline also possesses a really wickedly cool laugh. Although not strictly a power it should be mentioned. Another interesting note is that ghosts may be immune to some of her powers, due to power interactions between vampires and ghosts.
In her debut episode, Marceline makes an unexpected return to her former home, a treehouse which is where Finn and Jake now reside. Aggressively to the point but with an indulgent air of authority and fear about her, she evicts both Finn and Jake reasserting her possession of the treehouse. Not before telling them of her adventures in Ooo, including riding enormous Giant Goldfish and acquiring Nut Creatures.
After Finn and Jake move into a cave after deciding it was best not to challenge Marceline, she arrives and reveals that the cave is her property as well. After a small fight, Marceline unexpectedly becomes more affectionate, warm, and friendly, saying she enjoyed and was amused by Finn and Jake.
She gives the treehouse back to them both as a gift and sets up residence in the cave. This was Marceline's second appearance and transitions her from being an episode foil and into Finn and Jake's circle of friends. Marceline happens upon Finn and Jake and decides to screw with them. Or with Finn specifically as her game seems to be directed at him and she scares Jake away at this time Jake is still terrified of her and will play into the secondary plot.
Finn intercedes when Marceline appears to bully an old man. Marceline tells them he is her henchman for life, correctly predicting that Finn will volunteer to take his place.
Marceline then proceeds to give Finn seemingly sinister orders that have innocuous or beneficial resolutions. Finn eventually catches on to her game and begins playing along, somewhat to her surprised amusement. This is also the episode that established Marceline can survive in sunlight as long as she has some covering. Jake exposes her to direct sunlight and believes he has staked her, but she survives by a switch-out. The episode ends with her "firing" Finn because he figured out her game.
Finn and Jake go to Marceline's house to watch a favorite movie with her. Already there is a trio of ghosts that are old friends of Marceline that she knew from "a gang in the underworld. Marceline apologizes to the boys, explaining that she never sits on the couch because as a vampire she floats over things. This gives our heroes the brilliant idea to have Marceline turn them into vampires so they can avoid sitting on the couch.
True to form she can't resist messing with them and pretends to turn them. Having grown tired of being a vampire and wanting to "Grow up", Marceline asked Bubblegum to extract her vampiric essence, in an attempt to make her mortal once again.
The reappearance of these vampires forces Marceline, Bubblegum, Finn, Jake, and Peppermint Butler to stake them one-by-one. After finally defeating The Vampire King, his essence is removed, however, Peppermint Butler accidentally spills it, causing an explosion that releases his essence. Marceline wanted to give up during this time, but Ice King sat down with her, and essentially called her a coward.
This managed to motivate her to try, and she defeated The Vampire King with the aid of Princess Bubblegum, Finn, and Jake, but was bit once again the process. While she was turned into a vampire again, she had come to terms with who she was, and was happy to be immortal, as she could hang out with Princess Bubblegum forever. Marceline is temporarily transformed by elemental magic into " Marshmaline the Campfire Queen ," a sentient marshmallow creature.
In her candy form, Marceline is gregarious and playful, but a bit naive about the nature of the new world around her; for instance, when an enraged Flame Princess attacks her, Marceline mistakes the assault for "wrasslin. Marceline's father returns to Ooo and attends one of her concerts, cheering her on way too loud in the crowd, though this was well-intentioned.
While he initially embarrasses his daughter and eventually causes a ghost fight to break out, by the end of the episode, Marceline is touched that her father was willing to support her.
After one of GOLB's monstrosities very nearly kills the princess, Marceline rushes to her side, and after a tender moment, the two affirm that they care for one another, and share a kiss. Following his escape from Golb, Marceline comforts Simon in the wake of his loss of Betty.
During the episode's epilogue, Marceline and Bubblegum are shown sitting together on a couch under a blanket while watching Finger Puppets, and they both touch heads.
A few years later, Princess Bubblegum has moved in with Marceline at her house when they are called back to the Glass Kingdom after the dragon reappears, and Marceline comes face to face with her past.
When her old song is unable to stop the dragon, she attempts to get inspiration for an even sadder and angrier song by revisiting the old hide-out her mother sent her to as a kid but instead finds a sense of acceptance. When they are trapped in a cave, facing possible death, she instead sings a love song affirming her love to Bonnibel which also successfully gets through to the dragon who releases his true self, no longer a danger to the kingdom.
Unlike traditional Western vampires, Marceline subsists not off blood, but rather the color red including "low-grade" shades such as pink.
Having spent centuries traversing the Land of Ooo, she has evolved into a "fearless daredevil", [37] and her fondness for mischief has turned her into something of a trickster. Consequently, in her first role, Marceline functions as the antagonist of the story, forcing Finn and Jake from their home.
However, she eventually becomes their close friend once Finn recognizes that she is "a radical dame who likes to play games". It is implied that some of her more malevolent traits are solely based on her vampire instincts.
In " Red Starved ", Marceline slowly becomes vicious and sinister after having been deprived of food, trying to tempt Jake so that she could eat him.
In " Vamps About ", Marceline was fine with Peppermint Butler creating weapons meant to kill her as a contingency, stating that she could have snapped and killed everyone at any given time. She can also be sentimental. She was very emotionally attached to her teddy bear Hambo, which was given to her by Simon Petrikov ; after Ash sold it to Maja , she was furious and broke up with him.
However, she was willing to give up Hambo in order to help Simon reconnect with his wife, Betty Grof. Marceline seems to be very emotional. For example, in " What Was Missing ", she seemed to be more aggressive towards Princess Bubblegum than she usually is.
She is also very independent, and in early episodes would often act without concern for Finn or his friends. It is easier for Marceline to express her feelings through music, as seen in the " Fry Song " and " I'm Just Your Problem ," but has trouble expressing them otherwise. She keeps a diary that she uses for inspiration for songs as seen in "Marceline's Closet.
Near the end of " The Dark Cloud ", her personality changed slightly. Marceline had learned how to be more mature which is proved by her accepting her immortality, by stating that she will be able to hang out with Princess Bubblegum forever. She also learned how to be more empathetic to others too.
However, it is still unknown if she got over her emptiness in the end. In Obsidian, which takes place several years after the series finale, Marceline has grown to be a much more emotionally mature person, while still retaining her playfulness. Marceline has light blue-gray skin, crooked fangs, and long, midnight black hair that reaches to her feet. She also sports two marks on her neck, which are the marks of the bite that turned her into a vampire. Her tongue is sometimes bifurcated, like a snake's, but other times looks like a normal human's.
This may stem from her shapeshifting powers, allowing her to change its appearance as she pleases. In the episode " Go With Me ", her hair is shaved into an undercut, which reveals that she has pointy ears. She is very thin and sometimes appears to be thinner than Princess Bubblegum; however, her shape can vary slightly depending on who is drawing her. She was first heard of in the episode " Henchman ," that she would sing songs to her at night and Marceline is reminded of her when she would scrape her knees and her mom would patch her up.
She first appeared in " Marceline's Past ," when Simon Petricov brought Marceline back to the Nightosphere and she appeared next to Hudson. In that episode, when Hudson was yelling at Simon, Anne was holding Marceline. She was told to be dead from age, because she was human, it was also told that Hudson tried to keep her alive but she couldn't any loner and he didn't want to turn her into a vampire. Marceline has a pet zombie poodle named Schwable.
Schwable was seen briefly in her house in the episode " It Came from the Nightosphere " lying in the living room when Finn and Marceline were doing a song. It walked up and went to another room once Finn started beat-boxing.
Pendleton Ward has confirmed that Schwable was based on his friend Marie's dog Schwable. Schwable is a white male poodle that has recently passed away, and is seen on the show as Marceline's dog that roams around her house. In " Marceline's Closet ," there is a doggy door in the front that Jake uses to get into Marceline's house while Finn and Jake were playing Cloud Hunt. Marceline and the Ice King were close friends during the aftermath of the Mushroom War when he was still Simon Petrikov and he was the one who originally gave her Hambo.
Marceline remembers her past connection with Simon, but the Ice King doesn't. Though Marceline discourages the Ice King from constantly coming to her house, she does not immediately force him out of her house even when Finn and Jake arrive to take him away.
Before the crown wiped his memory, he cared for Marceline for a time and wrote her a note about their friendship while apologizing for leaving her and explaining why he has to, which she eventually gets to read. She finally admits to liking the Ice King, but as an old grandfather-figure of some sort, since she stopped the Ice King from kissing her when he mistakes it for flirting and saying she doesn't like him "that way". She is also visibly distraught when she sees that he doesn't remember the meaning of the messages he left for her before his transformation into the Ice King becuas eshe does not know the consequences involved in Ice King's crown, and as she doesn't know how she can help him.
She is last seen with him when they turn the notes into a song, and she is shedding tears while singing with her old friend. In the Farmworld universe, Simon stops the Lich 's existence by using his powers to stop the Mushroom Bomb from hitting Earth, but is killed in the process. Distraught by this act of bravery, Marceline protects his dead body for the next thousand years, even avoiding becoming a vampire just to protect him and, more importantly, the ice crown.
In " Simon and Marcy " she is shown to have deep feelings for the Ice King. She says she loves him, and invites him to play basketball with Finn and Jake. She is shown to have a strong emotional bond towards him, thinking of him as a father, and being worried about his well-being and sanity. She also reveals to Finn and Jake her history with him, meaning that she is not ashamed to have an affliation with the Ice King. Though they were initially enemies, Finn and Marceline soon befriend one another.
Even when Marceline acts as a bully in her debut episode " Evicted! Both Marceline and Finn share the same spark for adventure and love of danger and excitement. Marceline is very good friends with Finn and seems to trust him and be very comfortable with him. One of the reasons Finn and Marceline befriend each other is that Finn saved Marceline's life in " Henchman " when Jake exposed her to the sunlight and threw garlic at her in a misguided attempt to help Finn. However, though they are now friends, Marceline still seems to care about her Axe-bass more than him, as seen in "It Came from the Nightosphere.
They go to the movies together, but only as friends. Recently, Marceline has expressed that she does indeed care for Finn's well being. This is exemplified in " Heat Signature ," where she becomes more protective of Finn when her ghost friends prank him and Jake too far on what started to be a harmless "vampire initiation.
In the same episode, Finn sees Marceline naked as she is about to take a shower, resulting in Finn being very flustered. Also, in the episode, Marceline forgives them for sneaking into her house even though she says not to. After she finds this out she jests to Finn that she doesn't want to hang out with him anymore. In " Bad Little Boy ," Marceline tells a story centered on the interaction between her male-counterpart, Marshall Lee , and Finn's's female-counterpart, Fionna.
It is possible that she based the story on her own interaction with Finn. However, even though Marceline claimed she only likes Finn as a friend, Marshall Lee seemed to think Fionna liked him more than just as a friend. She shows that they still have the same friendship they did in previous seasons, backing up that she was only jesting about not wanting to hang out anymore. As an avid trickster, Marceline can't resist scaring Jake when their two paths meet. Seeing his completely rational fear of vampires, Marceline often teases Jake and intentionally horrifies him when the chance is given.
This perpetual bullying comes back to haunt Marceline, however, when Jake refuses to believe in her generally wholesome ways and almost fatally wounds her in "Henchman.
However, later in the season, Jake gets over his fear, and he is often seen hanging out with Finn and Marceline as friends. He might even be fully considered a friend as evidenced in the beginning of " Memory of a Memory ," when after the Rag Wizard Ash in disguise informs Finn and Jake that Marceline is the one in trouble, he begins running faster, and later in the episode, when they run into the young Marceline and she asks who they are, Finn says "We're Finn and Jake!
In season 5, Jake is seen playing with Marceline along with Finn and Ice King, implying that they are still friends. According to the original series pitch document, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum were intended to have a "friendly rivalry. Princess Bubblegum shows discomfort around Marceline and appears to disapprove of her less-than-refined ways, while Marceline simply responds to this disapproval with mock affability, even teasing Bubblegum by calling her by her first name, "Bonnibel," and pointing out her supposed inability to show someone a good time.
The two are shown to be able to clash easily, as seen in " What Was Missing ," when Marceline sings " I'm Just Your Problem " to Princess Bubblegum, and spits on her jacket in the midst of a heated argument.
In the same episode, it is revealed that Princess Bubblegum's stolen item is a t-shirt that Marceline gave to her some time ago. Bubblegum says that the shirt means a lot to her and admits that she sleeps in it, causing Marceline to blush, something she does only when feeling very emotional. It is then revealed that Marceline herself had not even had an item stolen from her, but had been there solely for the company of those there, including Bubblegum.
